CyberCon originated with a planning committee in the fall of 2017. The conference goal was to unify cybersecurity and critical infrastructure into a conference that would help educate and connect professionals. The original planning committee included individuals representing NDIT, NDSLIC, Starion Bank, ND National Guard, Cybernet Security, Bismarck State College, NISC, Doosan Bobcat, Basin Electric Power Cooperative, MDU Resources Group, High Point Networks and the University of Mary.
The first and second conferences, held in 2018 and 2019 sold out of participant passes. The planning committee has now grown to now include several BSC cybersecurity students and Dakota Carrier Network. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference went virtual with great success. The planning committee has now grown to now include several BSC cybersecurity students and Dakota Carrier Network.
